Taylor McClung | "It’s been motivating since day 1, we all had fun doing it together, learning tricks together and trying to keep up with one another."

Taylor McClung is an incredible skateboarder. If one just saw his silhouette while skating, one would be able to tell that it was Taylor McClung. His unique style and way of performing tricks and his creativity in spot and trick choices make him stand out from the rest of the scene. He’s got high pop while at the same time looks super relaxed doing his maneuvers.

It’s nearly impossible to wander through the skateboarding world and never come across the name McClung. His brothers Trevor and Trent are phenomenal professional skateboarders as well. Together, the trio has made McClung a recognizable household name, as they feature each other in some of their videos and have thriving skateboarding careers on their own. If you want to see Taylor in action for yourself, I highly recommend watching his “Gone Skating” video part on Thrasher Magazine’s YouTube Channel. This part is a pleasure to watch. They filmed this video in Spain, and the unique European architecture is everything Taylor McClung needs to record such a fantastic video. You can see his creativity and skill thriving there.

Taylor has also been featured numerous times amongst the biggest skateboarding channels, such as The Berrics or Ride Channel.

The 32-year-old from Huntington Beach, California, is currently sponsored by Primitive Skateboards, New Balance Shoes, Bones Wheels, and Garage Skateshop.

In a video which you can watch on The Berrics’ Youtube Channel, Taylor McClung explained in detail who he thought has the best style in skateboarding. Brian Wenning, PJ Ladd, Bryan Herman, Wade Desarmo, and Brian Anderson were on his list. Once we know his list, it’s easy to see where his inspirations come from and that the people he looks up to style-wise are the right ones.

Overall, it’s safe to say that Taylor McClung is just like his brothers, a special skateboarding breed. They live, breathe, and eat the sport. Their trick repertoire is impressive, and if you ever find yourself scrolling through Netflix and struggle to decide what to watch, head over to YouTube and search for the McClung’s. You won’t be disappointed.

How did you get into skateboarding and what was your inspiration to carry on through your career?

My dad was a surfer so we always had a skateboard around the house, he rode me and my brothers between his legs since we could walk but we never actually did tricks until I was in middle school, maybe 12 years old. Then one day I watched my best friend Richard Parry kick flip off of a curb and I was blown away, from then on all I wanted to do was skate. My brothers and Richie just skated almost every day after that. We still all skate together to this day, that’s been a huge part of the love I have for skating. Skating with my friends and just having fun has been the inspiration.

You and your other two brothers all skate, how was that growing up all competing and skateboarding with each other?

It’s been motivating since day 1, we all had fun doing it together, learning tricks together and trying to keep up with one another. It was never really competitive we were just trying to keep up. I always had someone to skate the front yard with.

You have filmed a lot of clips for The Berrics, Thrasher and more. What has been your favourite internet piece to film?

Coming up the Berrics stuff was really dope to film, chase really hooked me Trevor and Trent up and they were a big push for us. The old park was so elite and there was always some legendary pro we looked up to hanging around. I have to say my favorite piece that’s come out is “gone skating” that went up on thrasher. I had spent a month skating in Barcelona my second time out there just out on the mission everyday with filmer Bryan Callaghan & NONO. My good friend Matt Bublitz who works for Thrasher edited it up and got it out for me, all homie style. Just the timing and those vibes are special for me. My gear was a little craze at the time though haha. I have a little timeline that’s yet to be seen, that’s really my favorite stuff so far.

Any future projects coming up you can tell us about?

These days I’m the TM for Primitive, so most of my time goes into that role. Those guys are always working on video projects, we have a full-length video coming out towards the end of the year. I still personally get to skate a bunch and doing more traveling than I was ever able to, but I’m never too focused on myself. I do have some clips in the bag, hopefully sooner than later I can pull a little something together.
